Are you a consultant? If so, you’re probably earning a pretty penny.
The reason that this is your job title is because a consultant is a very different sort of person to a business intelligence consultant. You have to make sure you are doing the same things you do when you’re on the road. When you’re on the road, you’re making the same decisions you make when you’re in the car or the airplane.
On the other end of the spectrum, consultants are usually quite business-like. You do the same things you do when youre at your desk, but you have a lot more time to think about what you want to do. You also have a bigger office and a bigger budget.
I see this a bit of a contradiction. The consultant in me wants to make a bigger impact in my life. The consultant outgrows the consultant in me, by the way.
Its a common problem. In my consulting business, my clients tend to be pretty high-powered business people. They might have four or five-figure salaries, and they do a lot of their work in executive suites. They have very good managers and very good technology. But they’re just not the type of person who spends their time thinking about how to improve the company. They don’t even know what to say when they get emails from a rival.
You should be able to talk to your boss about your boss. What’s good about a boss is that he has a lot of people he can keep up with. He’s almost certainly gonna be very satisfied if you don’t talk to him. But if you talk to him, you’re gonna get a lot of work done. He’s probably a little more intelligent than you, but you’re gonna get a lot of time wasted.
While I totally agree with this, I think it is also important to note that you shouldnt be afraid to talk to your boss. In fact, I think the opposite is true. You should talk to your boss for a reason, and if they get upset at you, you should ask yourself why you really want to work for that person. If you really want to work for a certain boss, you need to work for a better boss than the one you work for.
I think I am a pretty good business intelligence consultant. The last time I was an employee, I was a high school teacher, and I was a pretty hard worker. I had this habit of giving my boss an E on a spreadsheet and saying, “You can do it” with the same level of enthusiasm I would give an E on a homework assignment.
If you want to work for someone who’s more like you, then you need to make sure you’re worth more. It sounds like you’ve got a really good job. I’m glad you’re on the same page with your boss. I have no doubt that you’re a great employee, but it’s not going to be easy to get on the same page with some people.
I guess I should have realized that I wasn’t the only person who would be at ease talking about how great my job was. I have no doubt that the job I had was great, but the job I had was not at all how I would describe a high level business intelligence consultant. It sounded like you had a really good job. Im glad youve got a job that youre proud of.
