We can all agree that if a business’s actions are wrong, they should be stopped. We can also agree that if a business’s actions are wrong, they should stop to not only the company but as well the entire industry.
But what about when a businesss actions are ethical? We all know that business ethics are supposed to be the highest ethical standards that businesses should strive for, yet we often see them ignored. A company such as McDonalds can be an example of the latter. When the company banned the practice of dumping waste into local lakes, the community at large turned against the company. When they banned a company from giving blood in the hospital, the local community turned against the hospital.
Even if you’ve been a good, ethical business person for years, when you’re faced with a decision that is so egregious, what do you do? The answer is the same as with any other decision we make: you do what is right, and you don’t get fired or sued.
The point is that, as with any other decision we make, we should do what is right for the right reasons. That means we shouldnt be allowed to make a business decision that we think is wrong, immoral, unethical, or morally wrong.
The reason you dont get fired is because we keep making decisions that are based on our own selfish motives, and we don’t do that because they are right. We do what is right for the right reason.
This is the big one. The reason you dont get fired is because we don’t think you should be fired. We don’t think you are doing anything wrong. We dont think you are doing anything unethical. We don’t think you are doing anything immoral. We are a very ethical company.
