I am a student at Columbia University in the Department of Statistics and Business Analytics. I have been studying the data science masters class since fall 2014. I have a master’s degree in statistics and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics.
I like to think of myself as someone who really enjoys data science. I love it, I love it, I love it! I do not, however, like to brag or be boastful. I will not say that I have the credentials to be a data scientist. I still need to earn my degree, and that is why I do not have my stats and maths degree on my resume.
As someone who studies data science, I am going to be talking about why I like to study business analytics and why I think it is a well-deserved field.
As we’ve discussed before, data science is an extremely important skill for any business to have. It helps in a number of ways, and it is crucial to being successful. In fact, the data science industry is one of the most lucrative in the world. Big data, new technologies, and the ability to analyze huge volumes of data are only just starting to make inroads in the business world.
Well, data science is a subset of data management. So while most people think of data science as something that we do when we get something done, its more than that. Its all about how you store, analyze, and process the data. In fact, the two go hand in hand. And if you have data science skills, you can do more with less, because you can do more with the data.
A lot of people who start a new job in a new industry typically assume that every new problem, opportunity, or project requires them to be able to create a data science model. And so they go to the library and search for references to data science in their industry. And then they find themselves completely stumped because they don’t know what to do.
If you are a data scientist, you have to be able to take a problem and solve it. You might have to use some fancy statistical models, but you can’t just throw it into a spreadsheet and expect it to magically work. Data scientists need to know how to use data to their advantage, and they need to know how to think about the data. Data scientists also need to be able to see the data.
Columbia is a university that is focused on teaching data science. You may not have heard of them, but they are a great place to get your feet wet in the field. There are various ways that you can get involved in their data science programs, such as taking a Data Science for Business class. The point of this class is to give you a basic understanding of data science, and then to give you the tools you need to turn that basic understanding into a solid data science career.
